A Turkish Cypriot working in a post office in Lefkosa has been arrested for stealing packages sent into the country.
The suspect, who is working as a public officer at the Central Post office in Lefkosa was arrested on charges of stealing packages from abroad and brought before a Lefkosa court on Monday.
According to police report, investigation showed that the suspect carried out the crime between 2017 and April 2018. He is said to have transferred various goods brought from abroad to the country during the classification stage and then selling the packages.
Police said he was arrested following a complaint by a customer whose package was missing. An investigation was launched leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The court ordered the suspect to remain in police custody for three days for investigative purpose.
