In recent times there has been a rift between various Afrobeats musicians based in Cyprus versus Cyprus show promoters who not only refuse to pay them for performances but attempt to treat them with total disregard if they decide to show up for performances. These promoters hide under the guise of claiming they are promoting the artists by inviting them for shows. They don't provide tables or normal reception treatments like water and drinks back stage or even including them on the guest lists so they dont get embarrassed at the entrance.
ASGA Award winning rapper, Kevin Tita has been speaking up against this for the longest and today he is paid for all his shows and promoters have to book him ahead of time before he shows up to perform. With artists like Herinext speaking up, this will hopefully send a clear mesage to shady promoters that Cyprus based artists demand and will be given their respect and money pronto.
One thing these promoters should understand is that these artists have figured out that they dont need shows for their music to be heard anymore. They reach their fan bases through social media and their YouTub views, SoundCoud and Spotify streams are increasing on the internet so shw is just an extra edge and not a bed rock.
The singer rose to popularity in 2015 with his debut song 'Mrs. Portiphar' has continued to record and release music with his 2017 single 'Shots debuting with a video and well received on the internet.
