Our very own Nigerian star boy, WizKid is really making the continent proud at the moment with all he has been achieving overseas. The best thing about it all is that he is doing silently without raising any alarms. As in, we just woke up one day and found out Drake has jumped on a remix to his smash hit 'Ojuelegba', next thing we know, he has been featured on Drake's chart buster 'One Dance' and WizKid never tweets or posts about this things on social media before they happen. This is one thing his former enemy, Davido hasn't learn't.
We don't even want to count how many hit songs WizKid has been featured on around the continent in the last 12 months thats banging on radio and in the clubs. Do you know that since 2010 when WizKid blew up, you have either heard his songs or heard his name every single day from then till now? Just think about it and you will realise it if you didn't know or dont believe. check out the next 7 days if you won't hear any of his songs or hear someone talking about him.
Remember when Davido did that collaboration with Meek Mill? He kept shouting it from roof tops like 3 months before it happened, same happened when he said he will be working with Trey Songz, 50 Cents and the likes. The only artists that have learnt to work in silence and let the success speak is PSquare ( they did it when Chop My Money remix with Akon drop as well as Onyinye remix with Rick Ross). At a point, around 2014, Davido started mocking WizKid due to the fact that WizKid was no longer winning awards in Africa, without knowing that the young legend had started looking beyond fame in Africa. Thats the plan people... WizKid always has the master plan.
Now back to WizKid, this young boy that was signed to EME in 2009 became an over night sensation with the success of his debut album 'Super Star' which produced hits like 'Holla At Your Boy', 'Love My Baby', 'Don't Dull'.. infact all the songs on the album were hits. At a point of his career, he almost lost it all when the press/media turned against him and tried to paint him as a proud and arrogant person while all he did was express confidence in himself. You know how Nigerians always have this miopic mentality of liking someone because they pretend to be humble. He managed to weather the storm after the release of his sophomore album 'AYO' which produced multiple hits like 'Joy', 'On Top Your Matter, 'Show Me The Money' and the monster hit 'Ojuelegba'. At the time, it was like everyone hated WizKid, they said all sorts of things against him on social media while they praised Davido and to be honest, Davido actually started believing he was better than WizKid.
At the Headies Awards 2014, they didn't even reserve a sit for him at the event, he was barely nominated, fast forward to Headies 2015, they nominated him in 7 categories in which he won 4 despite snubbing the event by not even mentioning it on social media or even attending. Thats a boss for you. Everyone that counted WizKid out back then all look at him now and see everything they wish to become in him. That's what life is all about, what people think or say about you cannot stop you from reaching your goal and WizKid has proved it.
Looking at his progress from his debut album till now you can tell WizKid is the chosen son of Africa, a motivation to every young chap with a dream to conquer the world. How do you explain the fact that a boy from the rough dirty streets Ojuelegba has gone on to achieve everything another boy from a multi-billionaire family has been paying millions to achieve? How did he go from barely getting any shine to the very top of the billboard charts in the USA. WizKid is the first and only African artist in histroy to achieve such a feat.
Since 'One Dance' dropped, WizKid has been getting a total number of 1 Million views on all his videos on YouTube per day, that's about 40 Million views so far. He is also the highest paid African artists when it comes to shows and endorsements. He charges around $60,000 some nights depending on the magnitude of the event. He has also signed ghanian super group R2Beez, Efya and Nigeria's very own favorite, Mr. Eazi to his StarBoy record label and they plan to properly indoctrinate the Afrobeat sound into the USA music market. This is beyond shutting down Cameroon or Uganda or collaborating with Uhuru or DJ Arafat.
WizKid is a legend of our time and even though some people will hate to admit it due to his age, generations after us will talk about and celebrate WizKid's greatness like we celebrate Fela and 2Face now.
