The surprise-release strategy for Eminem‘s latest album project “Kamikaze’ may be considered to have paid off as it 434,000 equivalent album units in its opening week, earning the 45-year-old rapper his ninth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.
Of the total units sold, 252,000 came from traditional album sales. The 13-song project earned 225.5 million on-demand audio streams in its opening week, making it the largest streaming week in Eminem’s career.
These impressive numbers also mean that Kamikaze has the fourth-largest week numbers in 2018, behind Drake’s Scorpion with 732,000 total units, Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD with 537,000 units, and Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys which sold 461,000 total units.
