Donald D Is The Breathe Of Fresh Air Cyprus Has Been Waiting For And More.

As far as music goes in Cyprus, Afrobeats is resonating amongst the African audience on the Island, this is owed largely to the fact that there is a language barrier that has hindered us from listening to Turkish Pop which is the bigger genre both in Turkey and North Cyprus. This has been a blessing and a curse because it has given African artists based in Kibris to effectively register their tunes with a community that understands them but on the other hand has hindered them from getting on the radio there by slowing down the pace of things. With this blessing has come a few names that are pushing the limits on what the sound should be such as Kevin Tita, Yung Tizzer, JayBlinkz, Puzzo and a few others.

Now for quiet a while, only a few artists have produced quality music that has  dope production, sweet melody and rythm topped off with clean mixing and mastering. Out of this special cloth comes, MacDonald Koko otherwise known as Donald D who is making some big noise on the scene both as a producer and an artist himself.  For those that will be finding out about this young man for the first time, here we go and we promise you won't regret it.

Donald D has contributed to the introduction of a new vibe and sound coming from a few Cyprus artists to a commendable extent. If you followed the trend in music here last year, you would recall that an artist by the name, Spaco G made a loud entry into the scene with his debut single 'Sugar Cane' which cane with a video. The song garnered enough buzz for the Spaco to walk home with the award for Video of the Year at the ASGA Awards 2016 and he was for a while among the toast of show promoters and even opened for Phyno when he came to Cyprus last year. His biggest placement so far has been his work on Kevin Tita's smash hit single 'WAIT' which dropped late last year and has gone on to become one of the biggest tunes coming out of Cyprus so far. The song has been played over 30,000 times on SoundCloud and downloaded more than 10,000 times on Kevin's NotJustOk page. It seems Kevin finally found his sound after he met Donald D which made him subsequently ditch the western rap songs he was known for. 

While he crafted sounds that propelled other artists into the scene here in Cyprus, Donald D has also launched himself into people's ears with the same energy and finesse he used to hand out those hits to Kevin Tita and Spaco G. He first tested the waters with his first song titled 'Amarachi' featuring indigenous rapper, JackieBoy then he followed but with 'Orekelewa' featuring Kevin Tita. Even though both songs did not make it to the top of the charts like the ones he produced for other artists, it served as a catalyst to bring forth Donald out of the behind the scenes he had been stationed in.

A little over a month ago, his break out single 'Baby Na Fire' was released and has been gaining a big buzz around Cyrus. The song was entirely written and produced by him. The song has garnered so much buzz to get Donald D his first three shows with one taking place in Lefkosia, outside Magusa where he lives. He is also poised to be nominated in this year's ASGA Awards and possibly pick up a plaque as well. Did we mention he will be performing as well.
