Two of the reigning Afrobeats artists based in Cyprus, Tizzer and Kevin Tita took to social media today to debate whether Cyprus artists really need the support of Cyprus DJ's in order for their music to make a bigger impact. Tizzer blamed the lack of support from DJ's on the Island for the stagnantion in the export and distribution of music coming out of Cyprus, how ever Kevin Tita blames the artists who spend a lot of money to produce music and videos but won't spend a dime to promote it. See their exchange below.
In disagreement, Kevin Tita says the African artistes on the island are not willing to pay in order to receive promotions for their music and just wants the DJs to play their music for free.
Kevin Tita whose single 'BLESSINGS' currently has '6,574' downloads making it the most downloaded song from a Cyprus act this year, says he has been in that space before and what helps him is investing on his music for returns giving the likes of Davido, Wizkid and Tekno as examples.
On a positive side, both artistes have agreed to meet with the promoters and DJs to promote their music. Taking this big step is essential.
Do you think DJs and promoters should promote artistes for free just because they are upcoming?
Do you think artists need to pay the DJs before their songs get the waves in the club?
Let's know your thoughts in the comment section.
