A couple who tied up a man they believed was trying to have sex with their 13-year-old daughter could be charged with assault.
The parents ambushed the 28-year-old man on a Facebook Live video in British Columbia, Canada, on Thursday. The man, from Port Alberni, was tied on his stomach, with his hands behind his back.
The mother, who was filming, was heard saying: "He come to my house to meet my 13-year-old f***ing daughter to f*** her. He wanted to be her first. We f***ing tackled him, and Zap strapped him and called the police."
The parents were suspicious of the man after they apparently found explicit Instagram messages the man sent to their daughter. They also revealed they knew the man, who was the mum’s ex-best friend’s little brother. He had apparently known their daughter since she was three years old. The couple had taken the law into their own hands after police reportedly told them to block him on Instagram when they approached them six weeks ago.
The mother added in the video: "Why wouldn’t the police come and help me catch the predator that just came to my f***ing house? I’m so glad that I got my daughter’s phone and saw a message that she didn’t f****** erase."
But Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) denied this and said they had in fact been investigating the man for child solicitation for the past month after being notified by the mother.
A spokesman told CTV: "The police had directed her not to take matters into her own hands, that we were investigating it. She was directed not to make the meet happen."
The couple could now face charges of assault, causing bodily harm, and forcible confinement.
The mother said: "If I get charged, I still feel it was the right thing."
The stepfather added: "This is ridiculous. Shouldn’t a guy be able to protect his own family in his house?"
In the footage the police could be seen taking the man away. It was later reported they had taken him to hospital but he was not arrested.
