Murder suspect, Nidai Şanlı who appeared in court today for the second time over the killing of Nigerian student Kennedy Taomwabwa Dede last week in Famagusta has been ordered to remain in detention for another three days.
Nidai Şanlı who was arrested on Saturday last week and charged at a Famagusta court for murder, kidnap and assault has been in police detention in the last three days and appeared in court today for the second time under heavy security measures.
Testifying against the suspect in court, the police said Kennedy was kidnapped, beaten and killed over one thousand Turkish Lira.
The court ordered the investigation and the suspect, Şanlı, to remain in custody for 3 days.
Police said the suspects went to Kennedy's residence to collect the money on Monday January, 29, 2018 and then took him to the Çanakkale Pond with a car where he was severely beaten and killed.
Nidai Şanlı then escaped to south Cyprus through the border gate on Tuesday January 30, and was later arrested on Saturday February, 3.
Police said the Nidai Şanlı voluntarily confessed to the crime and demanded that the court grant an order for the suspect to remain in court for another three days pending investigation.
The court judge who pointed out the seriousness of the matter extended the detention period of the suspect for three days.
