#NEWS: Did Tuface Deserve a BEST MALE MVP Nomination Over Mr. Eazi & Tekno?

From musicians, guests, observers to all those who watched the just-concluded SouncityMVP awards from the comfort of their homes, the organisers have received several accolades for pulling off a smooth show. In truth, one has not witnessed such a well produced indigenous award show in a while.

While the event was a solid one, there are few unignorable loopholes in nominations that should be discussed. For “Best Male MVP”, Ugandian act Navio and Nigerian music legend 2Baba were nominated while popping acts like Mr Eazi and Tekno were exempted.

The Best Male MVP category as understood aims at celebrating African acts of the male gender who made things happen 2017, shook the music sphere and were in the conversation because of their records.

Navio is undisputedly a top act in his home country and a well-respected act across Africa, but how deserving is he of a Best Male nomination in 2017? How many continentally recognised or impactful songs did Navio release in the year under review?

While 2Baba is equally a very revered African act who has solidified his position with countless par releases, one won’t be wrong for questioning his nomination in the Best Male category. 2Baba had a pretty decent year in 2017, but his run is nothing compared to what pop acts like Tekno and Mr Eazi achieved musically.

Tekno had a very successful run in 2016 and throughout 2017. Mr Eazi, on the other hand, released the hottest mixtape (Accra to Lagos) of 2017 and has made more global moves than any new African act.

Of course, 2Baba deserves to be recognised; maybe with a special recognition or hall of fame award but definitely not in the Best Male of 2017. Even his hit single Gaga Shuffle is a product of the (pon-pon) sound that the likes of Mr Eazi and Tekno introduced.
