Kevin Tita Talks About Suffering With Depression At Age 15

ASGA Award artist of the year winner, Kevin Tita who is set to perform with RunTown on 28th October, has opened up on how he dealt with depression and age 15 through his Facebook page. The rapper whoi has been very vocal about his rough upbringing as can be seen in many interviews on YouTube and other platforms, made reference to the death of a 15 year old Nigerian girl, Slimzy Jay who recently committed suicide due to a heart break from her boy friend and he encouraged people dealing with depression to be strong as things will get better in the future.
So I came across the story of this 15yrs old girl Slimzy Jay who committed suicide because her boy friend left her and she was pregnant for him. The guy is 17 by the way.I went to her profile to get the full jist and to my surprise , Nigerians were on her page insulting her and laughing at her and calling her all sorts of uncanny names coz she killed her self. This girl was just 15 for Christ’s sake, pregnant, heart broken and probably afraid that her parents might kick her out the house, people will call her names and shame her for getting pregnant and her boy friend who is also a child himself can not afford to take her in either. This drew me back to myself at 15. I was also depressed at that age through to when I turned 17. I just finished secondary school then and my mates were gaining admission into the University, some were traveling overseas and it seemed like life was leaving me behind. To make things worse, I was not in good terms with my dad and my mom left when I was 5 so there was really no strong support system for me at all. I had started singing then and had all this big dreams but no record deal or money to make any of it happen. I went through a mid life crisis at 15 too.
I may look tough and all on the outside but inside me is a baby at heart to this day and this really came into play during that time. I would be in a room full of people and still feel alone. My siblings didn’t understand and my dad pretty much didn’t care, all he was concerned with was for me to go to school and become an engineer. Other issues that I cant really say in here contributed to it all.
But I made it through. I overcame and at 17, not only did I get an admission, I also miraculously got a record deal all the way from the UK. Things fell into place coz even in my weakness, I knew I had a greater purpose and though I doubted if my dreams would ever come through, I kept believing.
Today, many youths and adults suffer from depression in Nigeria and Africa as a whole but are very scared and ashamed to talk to anyone coz just like that little girl, they will be laughed at and called WEAK. She was buried yesterday and I saw the comments on GossipMill Nigeria where people were calling her a disgrace and saying she should burn in hell.
To anyone reading this post that is going through depression today, I want to tell you to be strong because in the future, it gets better and one day you will share your story as a testimony to encourage others. God loves you and what you are going through is just a test. Be strong.
Did I tell you I too also travelled overseas 5yrs later? Everything happens in Gods time.
And to all those that are making a joke and laughing at that little girl, Death is always like a story line till it comes knocking on your door or that of someone you love.
Rest In Peace Loveth.

See what he said below.
