Kevin Tita x Phatso |
For the last 5 years or there about, Nigerian artists have dominated the African music scene in Cyprus, we have seen artists like Kevin Tita, El Bee, King Josh, TBonez, Yung Tizzer, VersaceBoyz and more have their moments, shut down shows, win awards and build a massive following on the Island and for all this time everything seem so one sided. Maybe it's because the music scene in Cyprus has Nigerians in all sectors including media, DJ's, event organizers etc.
There's been some sparks and lights coming from our Zimbabwean brothers but it seemed never to be enough to beam on the Zim talents in Cyprus. One guy that really did a lot is DJ SimonSayz who is currently one of the most booked DJ's on the Island. Not only did he prosper as a DJ, he also veered off into music at some point from 2014 to 2016. He made some loud noise when he collaborated with HKN's Danagog and won quiet a number of awards and made it to the news papers back home in Zimbabwe.
In recent times, a new name is slowly gaining a buzz and it's no other person but this guy called, Phatso. He first came into our consciousness when he produced and featured on DJ SimonSayz latest song 'Don't Let Me Go'. We later on learnt that Simon has launched an independent label called 'WAVE NATION' and signed Phatso and a female singer, Lemo to the imprint and since then we kept an eye out for Phatso in particular.
Not too long from then, his debut project was announced which he titled 'PHATSO'. What a bold statement to title your debut project after yourself even with no promo single out at the time. Yes, the EP is finally out and we just went through listening to the whole project of 6 tracks and it's nothing but fire.
The release party was held last two weeks at Hang Over Bar and quiet a number of entertainers came out to show support including Kevin Tita, VersaceBoyz, DJ Delete, DJ SimonSayz, DJ Nawti and others. iLite TV just released the video for the album launch and we are truly impressed.
Phatso might just be the very guy to bring to the fore front what Zimbabwe has to offer to Cyprus as it stands, his priduction skills is top notch and his sound is very catchy and will resonate more with the cool kids on the block. We hope the Zimbabwean populace in Cyprus shows him love and support like they have shown his Nigerian counterparts on the Island, thats all he will need before other nationalities gravitate towards his sound. Check out the EP Below.
